Holograms are three-dimensional representations created using light waves. Since the MaMoG came into force in 2019, holograms can also be registered as trademarks. Although trademarks are no longer required to be exclusively graphic, ensuring the necessary clarity and distinctiveness—similar to scent marks—often poses challenges. Therefore, a trademark application for a hologram must include a precise depiction of its actual appearance, which, due to its light-based nature, entails special requirements compared to conventional three-dimensional marks.
